Kickstarter has been a pretty powerful tool in releasing comic books that otherwise wouldn’t have seen the light of day. Matt Miner’s Liberator or Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare’s Rocket Girl are great examples, both are projects I’ve loved that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. So it was a pleasant surprise to receive an e-mail from Jesse James Higgins, who let me know he’s just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new horror graphic novel, The Tasting.
There’s been a ton of great horror comics lately; Locke and Key, Bedlam, Lot 13, Revival, Severed etc. the medium works really well at telling creepy and disturbing tales. So it’s nice to see a new indie comic giving it a go, which is why I’m more than happy to try guide some attention towards it.
In Higgins’ own words:
Told from the broken perspective of Stessa, The Tasting poses a direct challenge to human corruption by demanding answer to one question: at what point is a person no longer human? We watch and listen as Stessa recounts her transformation into a vampire and her bid to survive the horrifying landscapes and creatures born of disturbed imaginations.
Issue one is reportedly already complete, so it sounds like the team are pretty dedicated to the project.
The funding will go towards making the full 60+ page book a reality. With just a $3’000 goal it’s a nice small realistic target too, popping down $10 will give you access to the digital PDF once the book is finished.
