Reasons To Be Glad You’re A Nerd In 2013
2013 is going to be a good year for us. Need some proof? Check out the list below of awesome things coming our way.
Beware The Batman
Other than having a title that’s fun to yell at people (seriously try it, it’s very entertaining) this new TV series looks fantastic. It’s been a while since we’ve had a dark and gritty Batman on our television screens. The Brave And The Bold is wonderful, don’t get me wrong, but it only scratches a very particular itch. There’s been a gap in my life since Batman The Animated series went away, a gap I think this will fill. Promising to focus on underused villains, and Batman as a detective, (rather than just a punching machine) this sounds like a hell of a series. No exact date on when it’ll arrive just yet, but we’ll have it before the year is out.
Iron Man 3
The next Marvel Studios movie hits this year: Iron Man 3. After the ridiculous success of the Avengers you can expect Iron Man to pull in big money this summer. I was a bit disappointed by Iron Man 2 but with a new director and the excellent Extremis storyline for a starting point, I’m starting to get very excited for this movie. Will we see some Avengers cameos? I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if we did. And hey, at least if it sucks there’s Thor 2 at the end of the year!
New Xbox/Playstation consoles
The worst kept secret in the industry! At this year’s E3 everyone is expecting the announcement of the next generation of video game consoles. What games are going to be available at launch? What will they look like? How overpriced will they be? We don’t know! Roll on June!
At DC Trinity War is set to break out, which honestly we don’t know a whole lot about. But as the first big event since the New 52 started it’ll be interesting to watch what they’ve got planned, even if you don’t intend to pick it up. Meanwhile over at Marvel we’ve got Age Of Ultron. With my favourite Avengers villain center stage I’ve got my eyes on this one. The premise is that Ultron has won, the world is his. So we follow a band of resistance fighters trying to hit back. I’m a tiny bit concerned we’re going to see some time travel during this that cleans up the continuity problems this would bring. Considering Ultron is taking over the entire planet it’d be quite a ballsy move by Marvel to leave this as cannon, even if Ultron is expectedly obliterated by the end. The best news though is that the entire 10 issue event will ship from March to June. So there’s no long wait to see what happens next. Both this and Trinity War are set to bring “lasting consequences,” because c’mon it wouldn’t be an event without that line.
It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan. Already we’ve got Brian Wood’s new comic book series and soon we’ll have the return of Star Wars Legacy, with a new female lead. In movie news we can look forward to the impending announcements regarding the plot of Episode VII. Then in TV land there’s more fantastic Clone Wars episodes on the way and the comedy series Detours will be starting up. Reaction to Detours was quite mixed, but personally I really enjoyed the previews we’ve seen so far. Can you really tell me you watched the clip below without at least smiling a little?
A Game Of Thrones
HBO’s adaptation of A Song Of Ice And Fire is quite possibility the best TV show I have seen in my entire life. This year’s season will tackle the first half of the third book, A Storm Of Swords. As a fan of the books I’m eager to see how they go about adapting it as the third book is generally considered the best of the lot. Going by what we know is going to take place this season I expect this to be the most intense one yet.
