Yes, the worst kept secret in video games has been “unveiled” today: PlatinumGames are working on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game, subtitled Mutants in Manhattan.
The official site is a little barebones but it’s now live, along with links to both Facebook and Twitter pages.
That’s the good news, the even better news is that Tom Waltz, writer of the excellent IDW TMNT comic book, is working on the story for the game. For those who haven’t read the comic, Waltz’s writing is a blend of the old TMNT cartoon (also known as Teenage Mutant Ninja Hero Turtles, for us sensitive British children) and the original Mirage comics, which had a much harder edge.
So what can we expect from the game? If it’s anything like the comic it’ll be aimed more at a teenage and adult crowd than kids, but still be approachable enough for children to play without being exposed to anything too scandalous.
PlatinumGames are a perfect fit in terms of developer as they’ve proven plenty of times that they know how to make fantastic action games, with titles such as Bayonetta and the criminally underrated Vanquish, as well as the recent Transformers Devastation. As such it’s a safe bet that the game will revolve around beating Foot Clan ninjas into oblivion while racking up combo points.
The game is set to arrive this summer, so there’s still a few months to wait.
Anyway, you can check out the trailer below.
