Panels And Pixels In 2013
So it’s now 2013. You probably already knew that. I’m going to take a bit of a step back from my usual posts and get a bit more personal and bloggy than usual as I look back at 2012 and forward into 2013.
I set up this blog last year as the third, and hopefully final, “proper” blog I’ve had in the last few years. The idea being this blog would be somewhere to practice my writing and just somewhere to put my ramblings about comics and video games. The goal was that it was mainly just for myself but if anyone did stumble across it then: awesome. As c’mon, who doesn’t want people to read their writing? At the heart of it I do this because I want to entertain people with my writing so of course I’d love it if people did enjoy it. But as I said, the main reason I made the blog was for practice (which allows me to avoid writing this whole thing off as a waste of time if no one ever saw it! Woohoo!)
Looking back at the year I’ve posted about 90% comic related content which wasn’t my intention when I started but it just so happens I like talking about comics more than anything else! I did actually consider writing purely about comics from the get-go but I just didn’t want to limit myself. For instance, my favourite article last year was probably my Star Wars 1313 character speculation. Because it was amusing, entertaining and also informative… at least in my opinion! It was exactly the sort of article I started the blog for. But of course, it’s not about comics. So that’s the reason I didn’t limit myself, I want to keep the door open for other little non-comic articles over time. But on the opposite side of things one of the articles I felt most strongly about was Captain Marvel in relation to Avengers 2, as someone who always tries to champion female characters it’s something I really wanted to say. Comics just generally brew up more passion in me than video games. I still love games, but I feel I have more to say about comics.
Although I’m happy I kept up to blogging I haven’t posted as much as I’d like. The main reason for that is my University course which takes up an ass load of my time. Y’see I’m on a video game course where I spent the majority of my time creating and animating 3D models. Why I’m on this course and not a writing course is a long story, if anyone wants to know fire me an e-mail or tweet someday and I’ll tell you the ridiculous story. Anyway, the point is I’m not happy with how little the blog got used in 2012 and I want to ramp things up in 2013.
The thing is, I want to do this professionally. It’s been my passion for years. I have a ton of half finished articles that I’ve written up here and there but I don’t like half-assing things so a lot of stuff goes unpublished while I spend the time I would have used finishing it on more University work. Okay so that’s all the ‘boo-hoo, poor me’ stuff out of the way, the point is I want to get the balance of writing vs. University in check this year so I don’t end up moping that I haven’t written enough.
So 2013 is here! This year I want to really push myself to get better at not just my writing but expand into video and meet some other comic book bloggers. I love meeting new people but I honestly don’t know many people who are into comics, which is silly. So this year I want to start posting more often, post more interesting articles and make contact with other bloggers out there.
I even put up my first video yesterday, just to prove I’m serious about this. Warning it’s kind of rough and recorded on a webcam. I know, I’ll do better in future but hey it is my first attempt!*
* Technically I did do another attempt before this a month ago. It was a review of FF #1 that came out pretty badly thanks to a lot of things. It’s best for everyone if we forget that ever happened.
