Is Telltale’s Fables Game About To Be Revealed?
Earlier today Telltale tweeted a single word:

Speculation is that they’re gearing up to give us some solid information about their Fables video game. The Fables game was announced in February 2011 along with the Walking Dead game. Originally set for Q1 2012 the game slipped to late 2012 with a promise that we’d see something during the year. The date came and went and we still hadn’t even seen a screenshot. Of course instead we got Walking Dead and after its huge success, both critically and commercially, hype around Fables has gotten even bigger.
Last month we got the first word on the game in quite some time:
“We haven’t announced it yet. We’re still hammering it out. We want to make sure that people know it’s associated with the DC comic and Bill’s work and everything else. It’s delicate. But it won’t be called ‘Fables.’ With ‘Fables,’ or the game associated with the comic ‘Fables,’ it kind of… ‘Walking Dead’ has had a huge impact on the company as far as how we look at things and how we do what we do. We’re taking a lot of what we learned from that and making sure that ‘Fables’ can execute on the same things. That’s taking longer. But we’re definitely in full production on it. We’re working hard. It’s coming together really well. We’ll probably have more to talk about on it pretty soon, with a name and everything else, in the near future.”
So it sounds like Walking Dead influenced Fables in some way. Perhaps Fables was originally more along the lines of their earlier games like Back To The Future. Traditionally Telltale’s games were more akin to point and click adventures, but with Walking Dead we saw a lot more action thrown in there too. Expectations of Telltale have certainly increased so they may have delayed the game to make sure it matches their new reputation.
Fable Vs Fables?
One theory about the game’s name change is that it’s obviously very similiar to Fable, a flagship title for Microsoft. One would imagine they’d be quite protective of the name and may have even privately reached out to Telltale already. Alternatively it could just be Telltale preempting any potential issues and altering the name in advance. Either way, it seems clear from the quote that it’s nothing to do with trying to distance themselves from the source material.
Fabletown And Beyond
This month the first Fabletown And Beyond convention, hosted by Fables creator Bill Willingham, will be held over in the US. That seems like a pretty perfect time to show off the game. Not to mention a tweet earlier this month seemed to state pretty much that.
Telltale Games at Fabletown and Beyond? Big news about the Fables game in production? Things you can only learn by also being at the con?

So are we about to finally hear about the game? It looks that way. The convention is held from March 22nd to 24th so if this is the case we’ve only got a few days to wait.
