A New Sci-Fi Board Game Is On Kickstarter: Galactic Arena

Confession time, I’ve not played many board games. There are a ton of awesome nerdy board games these days like A Game of Thrones, Arkham Horror, Netrunner etc. but it’s only in the last few years that I’ve actually dabbled with them. After finding how much fun these games are, I’ve been on the lookout for any new ones to dive into. Well, freshly arrived on Kickstarter is a new board game called Galactic Arena from Storyception Games.

As I often do in Kickstarter articles, I’m going to take a step back and let the creator describe what their product is all about:

Players choose a Hero or Heroes and take on the role of galactic gladiators. Your Heroes battle in the Galactic Arena: an organised spectacle that is broadcast for the entertainment of the populace all over the galaxy.

Before the game starts, players secretly customize their Heroes. They choose special abilities and weapons from a large pool. They then enter the arena and duel each other in an exciting battle of wits and weapons. Galactic Arena can be played 1vs1, 2vs2 or 3vs3. Only the best advance.

This game is the first in a series of interconnected board games set in the Apocalypse Universe. The Heroes in the Galactic Arena are a part of a long story-line in a grand space opera with lots of drama, dangers and horrors.

The Kickstarter itself has some absolutely gorgeous artwork and a bunch of videos with more information about the game, so it’s well worth checking out for the eye candy alone. This is a very low risk campaign too, the game design is finished so the campaign is all about seeing how much they’re going to produce.

At the time of posting they’re already well on their way to getting funded so this is a pretty cool opportunity to jump aboard early. Better yet, for those of us in Europe the rewards don’t cost any extra for shipping and will be coming from directly within Europe. Meaning there’s no chance of us getting slapped with a huge customs charge.

All in all it looks like a great game and a really well organised campaign. You can find it right here if you want to see it for yourself.
