30 Day Comic Book Challenge Day 28 – Favourite Publisher

It’s day 28 of the 30-day comic book challenge! Every day I cover a different comic book question, along with the other members of the IGN Assemble Facebook group.

Day 28 – Favourite Publisher

I’ve mentioned before how as a teenager I was all about Marvel. The Avengers line of comics in particular I adored, though I also dabbled in most of everything else they published. Nowadays I still read some Marvel but my heart was stolen long ago by another publisher. One I actually followed as a very young teen before moving to Marvel: Image Comics.

The first proper comic book I followed on a regular basis was Spawn. Due to the wonderful idea of publishing the volumes with random numberless nouns I essentially picked the trades blindly. Eventually I fell out with Spawn and went running into the arms of Marvel. I returned to Image about 5 years ago after being enticed by The Walking Dead. I’d always heard of the series but never bothered to check it out. As one on my long list of ‘to read, someday’ series’ I picked up the first volume. From there I started to branch out and pick up other series’ they’d published like Invincible, another big name book I’d been putting off.

Fast forward to today and I adore seeing what’s coming from Image. The amount of quality books they put out is staggering. East of West, Saga, Peter Panzerfaust etc. Marvel and DC are great and all but there’s only ever so much creativity there. At Image anything can happen.
