30 Day Comic Book Challenge Day 20 – Favourite Super Power

It’s day 20 of the 30-day comic book challenge! Every day I cover a different comic book question, along with the other members of the IGN Assemble Facebook group.

Day 20 – Favourite Super Power

For a long time I’ve been drawn to Susan Storm’s super power. The invisibility originally seemed to be an excuse to put her in rather sexist situations (I mean c’mon the 3 men all get offensive powers and the 1 woman’s is to hide?), but it’s her use of force fields that I find interesting.

Perhaps it ties back into what my first comic book was, a Fantastic Four story by John Byrne, where Sue actually crushes an elemental enemy into oblivion with her power. That made me realise how very versatile the power was, it’s not simply putting up a wall it can be used in powerful offensive ways too. Something also highlighted during Civil War where she drilled a hole in the Baxter Building in outrage to Reed’s actions.

I think it’s very under appreciated just how awesome this super power is. It’s just so much more creative than the usual flight, super strength and other common powers. It’s a shame Sue is always living in Reed’s shadow too as, in my opinion, she’s far more interesting.
